  • USACE begins releases to St. Lucie March 6

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will begin 500 cubic feet per second (cfs) pulse releases from the St. Lucie Lock and Dam (S-80) beginning Saturday, March 6, as part of a planned deviation approved in September 2020 to reduce the risk of large lake releases during the rainy season when harmful algal blooms are more likely to be present.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Jacksonville District awarded a $37,348,064 construction contract for the Broward County Segment III beach renourishment project to Continental Heavy Civil Corporation on Feb. 23.

  • Lake O flows adjusted to support Sediment Study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will make temporary deviation to the Lake Okeechobee release schedule this week to facilitate a study by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to develop methods to indirectly measure sediment transported from the lake to the estuaries.

  • Jacksonville District to begin dredging Okeechobee Waterway near Jensen Beach, Stuart and Palm City, advises mariners

    The Jacksonville District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will begin dredging sections of the Okeechobee Waterway (OWW) in the vicinity of Jensen Beach and Stuart (Reach 3) and Palm City (Reach 4) by the end of February 2021.

  • USACE Adjusts Lake Okeechobee Dry Season Release Levels

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will reduce the planned increase in Lake Okeechobee releases to the Caloosahatchee Estuary from the original plan of 2,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 1,500 cfs from the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam (S-79). No releases are currently planned from the St. Lucie Lock and Dam (S-80).

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District has announced a plan to increase the amount of water being released from Lake Okeechobee to the Caloosahatchee Estuary.

  • Corps awards contract for Sunny Isles Beach renourishment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District awarded a contract on Jan 26 to Eastman Aggregate Enterprises, LLC of Lake Worth, Florida, for $14,040,069.05, for the Sunny Isles Beach shoreline renourishment project, part of the Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project.

  • North Ponte Vedra Coastal Storm Risk Management Project Feasibility Study funded by Congress

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Jan. 19 that its Jacksonville District will receive a $500,000 congressional allocation under the Fiscal Year 2021 Work Plan for the Army Civil Works to begin a Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) Study of North Ponte Vedra Beach, St. Johns County, Fla.
