  • USACE Reduces Caloosahatchee Releases from Lake Okeechobee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will reduce Lake Okeechobee releases at the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam (S-79) from the current weekly average of 1,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 1,000 cfs beginning May 29. The St. Lucie Lock and Dam (S-80) remains closed and USACE continues to manage the C-44 canal levels at the Port Mayaca Lock and Dam (S-308).

  • USACE adjusts Lake Okeechobee Releases to Caloosahatchee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will reduce Lake Okeechobee releases at the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam (S-79) from the current 2,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 1,500 cfs beginning May 15. The releases will also change from a steady flow to a pulse release to flush the lower end of the system, raise salinities, and help combat the formation of algae.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces construction commencement in mid-May for the Sunny Isles Beach shoreline renourishment project, part of the Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces additional reopenings starting May 14, 2021, at Corps-managed recreation areas along the Okeechobee Waterway that were closed in March 2020 to protect against the further spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
