CANAVERAL LOCK
CLOSURE FOR MAINTENANCE
1 December 2019 to 30 April 2020

Notice is given that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is notifying the public, marinas, commercial and recreational vessels traveling through Canaveral Lock it will be closed and dewatered for maintenance 1 December 2019 to 30 April 2020 (updated). This will be the first lock dewater maintenance closure in 10 years. Maintenance is necessary to repair aging and damaged infrastructure in addition to improving public and vessel safety. Repairs will require the lock chamber to be dewatered for crews to perform inspections, replace corroded steel structure, paint, install new gate seals, and repair Manatee Protection System components. During the closure, barges, floating cranes and divers will be working in the lock entrance requiring vessel operators in the area to use minimal speed and caution for safety.

AMENDMENT # 1: (SEE UPDATE BELOW)
There will be intermittent lockages during the period of December 1, 2019 and January 1, 2020. The schedule for these lockages will be determined by contractor activity. Please contact Canaveral Lock at 321-783-5421 for more up to date information.
AMENDMENT# 2:
Due to unexpected repairs required on the sector gates, the Corps of Engineers is required to extend the lock maintenance closure. These additional repairs are necessary to address extensive corrosion and ensure safe, reliable operation. The new planned completion date is 30 April, 2020.
