U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contractors installed the first Blue Roof from Hurricane Ian in Fort Myers Oct. 8. The installation is a part of the FEMA assigned Corps-managed Operation Blue Roof program. The program's primary goal is to provide as many storm-damaged eligible roofs with protection from further damage from rain in future storms. Additionally, it seeks to provide residents with a livable house while they recover from the effects of Hurricane Ian.

The temporary blue roofs offered through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Operation Blue Roof are free. There is no cost to the homeowner for application or installation. Anyone who attempts to charge a homeowner for an inspection or installation is not with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or a contractor associated with this program.

There are three ways to ensure a homeowner signs up for a blue roof with USACE. First is by visiting Blueroof.us, second is to call 888-ROOF-BLU, and third, is to visit one of our many Rights of Entry sign up locations. Those are listed on the web at: www.blueroof.us/

When our contractors arrive at a property, they will have a work order which includes the homeowners name, address, and most importantly, a six digit right-of-entry number.

If all these criteria are not met, then they do not represent the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Anyone who believes a representative or work crew is fraudulent and misrepresenting the government should contact local law enforcement.
