USACE schedules informational meeting for Indian River Lagoon – South C-44 Preliminary Project Operating Manual on April 8

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, announces an informational meeting on the Preliminary Project Operating Manual (PPOM) for the Indian River Lagoon – South (IRL-S) C-44 Project, to be held Thursday, April 8 at 5:30 p.m.

The purpose of the informational meeting will be to update the public on the C-44 Project Operating Criteria that will be part of the new Preliminary Project Operating Manual (PPOM) for the project. The PPOM is an update to the Draft Project Operating Manual that was part of the overall IRL-S Project Implementation Report (PIR). The operations are consistent with the authorized project purposes in the PIR.

“We will provide an overview of the Operations Plan and the initial fill timeline for the reservoir,” said Michael Hensch, one of the water managers with the Jacksonville District.

In addition, Project Manager Michael Drog will provide an update on the IRL-S project components and schedules.

The purpose of the C-44 Reservoir and Stormwater Treatment Areas (STAs) is to provide 60,500 acre-feet of new water storage capacity and 3,600 acres of new wetlands to capture, store, and treat local C-44 basin runoff, improving salinity in the St. Lucie Estuary and the southern portion of the Indian River Lagoon.
