Fellsmere Grade Recreation Area
Named the “Best Bass Fishing” area in Florida by Fish & Wildlife officials, the Fellsmere Grade Recreation Area was created as part of the St. Johns River Upper Basin Project. A precursor to the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan, the upper basin project is a model for large-scale floodplain restoration projects, providing fish and wildlife habitat, recreation opportunities, water quality improvements, and flood protection for thousands of people in Brevard and Indian River counties. More than 40 years in the making, the 166,000-acre project is one of the largest and most ambitious wetland restoration and flood protection projects in the world.
