1. DESCRIPTION
The Water Resources Development Act of 1986 authorized the project. The authorized project provides for a protective beach along 2.4 miles of shoreline on central Longboat Key and 5.6 miles on Manasota Key in the vicinity of the City of Venice, with periodic nourishment of both areas as needed and justified. The recommended plan provides for 3.2 miles of protective beach.

4. STATUS
Current activities include environmental and topographic surveys to comply with Florida Department of Environmental Protection permit. The next (3rd) renourishment is scheduled for 2024/2025. The project was impacted by Hurricane Ian and a Project Information Report was submitted recommending the project be considered for Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies (FCCE) funding. The second renourishment contract was awarded in September 2014. Beach placement commenced in December 2014 and was completed on 14 April 2015. Approximately 750,000 cubic yards of sand were placed in the project area.
