1. DESCRIPTION

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) completed a Section 203 report entitled “Central Everglades Planning Project Post Authorization Change Report – Feasibility Study and Draft Environmental Impact Statement” in March 2018. The changes in this report were authorized in the Water Resources Development Act of 2018 in Section 1308 pending completion of a report to address the concerns, recommendations, and conditions identified be the Secretary in the review assessment titled “Review Assessment of South Florida Water Management District’s Central Everglades Planning Project, Section 203 Post Authorization Change Report, Integrated Feasibility Study and DRAFT Environmental Impact Statement (March 2018, Amended May 2018)” and dated May 2018. These changes to CEPP are included in the EAA. 

The purpose of EAA is to improve the quantity, quality, timing, and distribution of water flows to the central Everglades (Water Conservation Area 3 (WCA 3) and Everglades National Park (ENP)). The project area for the CEPP encompasses the Northern Estuaries (St. Lucie River and Indian River Lagoon and the Caloosahatchee River and Estuary), Lake Okeechobee, and a portion of the Everglades Agricultural Area. The project beneficially affects more than 1.5 million acres in the project area.

4. STATUS

USACE is working with SFWMD to complete the EAA Follow-Up Report to address the concerns, recommendations, and conditions identified by the Secretary in the review assessment. USACE is working with SFWMD to advance the construction of project features for the EAA A2 STA.
