1. DESCRIPTION

The St. Johns County Coastal Storm Risk Management Project was authorized for construction by Section 1401(3) of the Water Resources Development Act of 2018, Public Law 115-270. The design includes construction of a 60-foot berm along 3 miles of Atlantic coast shoreline including a dune feature that reflects the average 2015 dune position with tapers along the northern and southern ends of the project. The plan includes 3 renourishments approximately every 12 years over the 50-year project life. .

4.STATUS

The project was critically eroded as a result of the November 2021 nor’easter, followed by hurricanes Ian and Nicole in 2022. As a result, Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies (FCCE) funds have been authorized for emergency renourishment. The FCCE contract was advertised on 28 March 2023 with Bid Opening scheduled 11 May 2023.
