St. Lucie South

Located on the St. Lucie Canal portion of the Okeechobee Waterway, St. Lucie Lock Recreation Area is just a 10 minute drive from Stuart, Florida. The tropical atmosphere with its lush vegetation provides an excellent location to camp, fish, picnic, boat, or enjoy hours of quiet contemplation. While enjoying nature's beauty, visitors may view boats and manatees locking through as they travel the Okeechobee Waterway.

The St. Lucie South Campground offers 9 RV/tent sites and 8 boat campsites with electric and water hook ups. There are also 3 tent sites with no hook ups. A large picnic pavilion located in the day use area can be reserved. The campground is open year round. Attendants are on duty and the campground telephone number is 772-287-1382.

The city of Stuart is located just down the road and offers nearly everything you can think of. Grocery stores, restaurants, shopping malls, and the beaches on the Atlantic Ocean are all within a short driving or bicycling distance from the St. Lucie Lock Recreation area. The nearest hospital is Martin Memorial South on Cove Road.

Ortona South Campground and St. Lucie South Campgrounds are part of the same water resource project and fall under the same 14 day in any 30 consecutive day period regulation. Campers cannot stay at Ortona South for fourteen days and then camp St. Lucie South for 14 days without camping elsewhere for 16 days. Campers also cannot use different names to get around this regulation.

Additional Information

  • Park Hours — The St. Lucie South Campground is open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The campground entrance gate is closed at sunset. All visitors are required to leave at 10pm. Quiet hours are observed 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Camping — Camping is permitted in designated areas only. Check-out time is 11:00 AM and check-in begins at 12 noon. Campsite fees are $30 per day for RV and Boat sites, $25 per day for Tent sites. Camping is limited to 14 days within a 30 day period.
  • Pets — Pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. Pets must be penned or kept on a 6’ leash at all times.
  • Campfires — Fires are permitted in grills & fire rings only. Please extinguish all unattended fires.
  • Litter — Campers are expected to keep their site free of litter at all times. Trash cans are located throughout the campground for your convenience.
  • Parking — Vehicles must be parked on camp pads or in designated areas.
  • Trailer Dump Station — A dump station is provided for the disposal of waste water or similar material. Dumping "gray water" onto the ground is prohibited. Dump fees are $20 for waste generated prior to camping, and campers are allowed one free dump per week or per stay.
  • Reservation — Campsites can be reserved up to 180 days in advance but no earlier than 3 days in advance. For reservations call toll free at 1-877-444-6777 or visit the reservations Web site.
  • St. Lucie Lock Boat Launch Ramp — There is a no fee to use the boat launch ramp.

  • America the Beautiful Senior and Access Pass /Golden Age/Golden Access — The lifetime pass entitles cardholder to a 50% discount of user fees at a federal project. Visitors who possess proper identification that they are a U.S. Citizen, either 62 years or older or receiving handicap disability assistance are eligible for the program.

From I-95, take Exit 101 (Stuart/Indiantown), following SR 76 W for 0.5 miles to Locks Road. Turn N on Locks Road to Canal Street intersection and make a left into the campground.
