  • Lake O Sediment Study Held Nov. 17

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District plans to execute a one-day deviation Nov. 17 as part of an ongoing sediment study by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

  • Lake Okeechobee Sediment Study Postponed

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will delay the previously announced sediment study scheduled for Nov. 9 after heavy rains across Florida led to heavier local basin runoff in the Caloosahatchee River Estuary than originally forecast.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, announces a Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM) Project Delivery Team (PDT) Meeting, to be held Thursday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and LOSOM PDT Technical Workshops on Tuesday, June 22 and Wednesday, June 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • USACE Reduces Caloosahatchee Releases from Lake Okeechobee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will reduce Lake Okeechobee releases at the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam (S-79) from the current weekly average of 1,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 1,000 cfs beginning May 29. The St. Lucie Lock and Dam (S-80) remains closed and USACE continues to manage the C-44 canal levels at the Port Mayaca Lock and Dam (S-308).

  • USACE to reduce Lake Okeechobee releases beginning April 3

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will reduce Lake Okeechobee releases to coastal estuaries beginning Saturday in an effort to slow the lake’s recession rate. Releases to the Caloosahatchee will be reduced to 1,200 cubic feet per second (cfs) as measured at the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam (S-79) and to 300 cfs as measured at the St. Lucie Lock and Dam (S-80).

  • USACE begins releases to St. Lucie March 6

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will begin 500 cubic feet per second (cfs) pulse releases from the St. Lucie Lock and Dam (S-80) beginning Saturday, March 6, as part of a planned deviation approved in September 2020 to reduce the risk of large lake releases during the rainy season when harmful algal blooms are more likely to be present.

  • Lake O flows adjusted to support Sediment Study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will make temporary deviation to the Lake Okeechobee release schedule this week to facilitate a study by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to develop methods to indirectly measure sediment transported from the lake to the estuaries.

  • Jacksonville District continues Lake Okeechobee Release Reductions

    The Jacksonville District announced today the continuation of gradual reductions of Lake Okeechobee releases to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee rivers after beginning the transition to dry season operations Dec. 5.

  • Corps to start reducing flows out of Lake Okeechobee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will start reducing outflows from Lake Okeechobee to the estuaries, starting Saturday, December 5. USACE will reduce releases from Lake Okeechobee gradually to allow time for the ecosystems of the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie rivers and estuaries to adjust.
