  • USACE announces two Public NEPA Scoping Meetings on Nov. 28 and extends public comment on New C&SF Flood Resiliency Study to Dec. 7

    USACE invites the participation of Federal and state agencies, Native American Tribes, local agencies, and interested stakeholders in providing comments and identifying any issues or concerns. Two virtual Public NEPA Scoping Meetings will be held on Monday, November 28. The first will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the second will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The meetings will include a short presentation about the study and the NEPA process, followed by a comment period to receive feedback on the flood risk problems, including what is important to stakeholders when we look at the problems and potential solutions. The NEPA Scoping comment period is being extended through Wednesday December 7, 2022, to allow additional time due to the effects of Hurricane Nichole and the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday.

  • USACE announces BBSEER Project Delivery Team Meeting on June 30

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces a Project Delivery Team (PDT) Meeting for the Biscayne Bay and Southeastern Everglades Ecosystem Restoration (BBSEER) Project Study on Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 1 to 3 p.m. “The purpose of this Project Delivery Team Meeting is to review model assumptions for the existing condition and future without project baselines prior to completing development and modeling in the Regional Simulation Model. The model assumptions were developed by the Interagency Modeling Center in collaboration with the BBSEER plan formulation and model subteams. The existing condition and future without project baselines will be used to measure the performance of the alternative plans. BBSEER alternative plans are intended to restore freshwater flows to terrestrial and coastal wetlands in Biscayne Bay and the Southeastern Everglades,” said April Patterson, BBSEER Senior Project Manager. “We appreciate the continued engagement of the interagency Project Delivery Team and members of the public during the planning phase of this complex project. Your participation during our extended meetings and workshops, your input, local knowledge, expertise and shared data are absolutely critical to the development and success of this project.”
  • USACE seeks comments on supplemental EA to incorporate L-67C backfill treatments into CEPP South Phase

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces a 30-day public comment period for the supplemental Environmental Assessment (EA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for incorporation of backfill treatments constructed in the L-67C Canal associated with the Installation, Testing, and Monitoring of a Physical Model for the Water Conservation Area (WCA 3) Decompartmentalization and Sheetflow Enhancement Project, known as the “Decomp Physical Model” into the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) (South Phase). Comments are due Feb. 23, 2022.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces a Project Delivery Team (PDT) Meeting for the Biscayne Bay and Southeastern Everglades Ecosystem Restoration (BBSEER) Project Study on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, from 9 to 11 a.m. “The purpose of this Project Delivery Team Meeting is to summarize feedback on measures and alternative concepts received at the September PDT. The team will also share the initial detailed alternative plans intended to store freshwater for use during the dry season, methods of conveyance and redistribution, and sources of freshwater developed without modeling. Initial plans are intended to restore timing and distribution of freshwater to natural areas such as Biscayne Bay and the Southeastern Everglades,” said April Patterson, BBSEER Senior Project Manager. “We appreciate the continued engagement of the Project Delivery Team, stakeholders and members of the public during the planning phase of this complex project.     The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District awarded a contract on Jan 26 to Eastman Aggregate Enterprises, LLC of Lake Worth, Florida, for $14,040,069.05, for the Sunny Isles Beach shoreline renourishment project, part of the Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project.
  • Federal and State Partners Celebrate CEPP South Groundbreaking

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District hosted a groundbreaking ceremony today at the S-333 water control structure in western Miami-Dade County, bringing together members of the South Florida Ecosystem Restoration Task Force to celebrate the first contract for the Central Everglades Planning Project, a project designed to improve flows south to Everglades National Park.
