San Juan, Puerto Rico – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) successfully installed a 240 Kva generator provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at the Diagnostic Treatment Center of Guanica, Puerto Rico Sept. 21, providing sufficient temporary power to the facility until commercial power is restored.
The install is one of five generators currently planned to be installed as part of the overall federal response after the landfall of Hurricane Fiona on Sept. 18.
Mayor Guanica Honorable Ismael Rodriguez Ramos and Guanica Health Center Coordinator Jackeline Garcia said they were thankful of the rapid response of FEMA and USACE as the generator was being installed.
Maj. Wallace Bandeff, Power Mission Commander, USACE Walla Walla District oversaw delivery and install of generator, which will be inspected, maintained, and fueled by FEMA contractors until is no longer needed.
USACE has received FEMA Mission Assignments (MAs) for Regional Activation and Temporary Emergency Power in response to Hurricane Fiona. Under these MAs we have deployed a Temporary Emergency Power Planning and Response Team, Soldiers from the 249th Engineer Battalion, team leaders and assistant team leaders, as well as subject matter experts in logistics, temporary power, infrastructure assessment and debris removal.
