Project Manager Brandon Burch tells Action News reporter about the St. Johns County Coastal Storm Risk Management feasibility study
The study team is seeking public comments thru Apr. 4. The goal of Corps of Engineers' shore projects is to reduce risk and promote coastal resilience. Federal beach projects are built to act naturally, so most people don’t even know it’s an engineered beach. Coastal communities with engineered beaches have historically fared much better than other communities long-term and following storm events. Coastal Storm Risk Management projects not only help provide local economic stability and opportunities, but they also have inherent benefits in restoring critical habitat for shorebirds and marine turtles.
