1. DESCRIPTION
The Fort Pierce, FL Shore Protection Project encompasses 2.4 miles of shoreline running from immediately south of the Fort Pierce Inlet southward to Surfside Park. The project is on a 2-year renourishment cycle due to impacts to the beach from the federal navigation project at Fort Pierce Inlet. St. Lucie County prepared a Section 203 integrated feasibility report and environmental assessment to evaluate alternatives to improve project performance over a 50-year analysis period to support the authorization of a new modified project.

4. STATUS

Headquarters, US Army Corps of Engineers (HQUSACE) guidance for addressing conditions for implementation of Section 203 studies authorized for construction pursuant to Section 403 of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) 2020 was provided to the District in December 2021. Further South Atlantic Division (SAD) Direction for Alignment of Efforts guidance specific to the project was provided in August 2022. A scope, schedule, and budget have been developed in coordination with the non-federal sponsor to address unresolved Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) (OASA (CW)) comments on the sponsor’s Section 203 study. A cost sharing agreement is being prepared for execution in May 2023. The current cost estimate for work needed to resolve OASA (CW) comments is $700,000, cost shared 50/50, and ultimately leading to a Director’s Report in May 2025.
