    USACE Jacksonville announced the award of a $20.2 million contract June 30, 2023, to Weeks Marine Inc. of Covington, La., for emergency renourishment of the St. Johns County Coastal Storm Risk Management Project (Vilano Beach).

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, requests that homeowners and residents in the Vilano Beach area assist in the success of the recent St. Johns County beach renourishment project.

  • Corps awards beach restoration contract for St. Johns County Coastal Storm Risk Management Project

    The Jacksonville District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $15,179,050 contract July 7, 2020, to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, LLC, of Oak Brook, Ill., to restore critically eroded shoreline along the coast of St. Johns County, Florida. The Coastal Storm Risk Management Project will include both dune and beach berm construction along approximately 2.6 miles of the St. Johns County coastline from Vilano Beach to South Ponte Vedra Beach. The initial construction will include placement of approximately 1.3 million cubic yards of sand that will be dredged from shoals located within St. Augustine Inlet. Future periodic nourishment events are planned at multi-year intervals.

  • Chief of Engineers signs St. Johns County coastal storm risk management report

    The Chief of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lt. Gen. Todd Semonite, officially signed the Chief of Engineers Report for the St. Johns County, Fla. – Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study August 8. The recommended plan includes approximately 3 miles of beach and dune renourishment within Vilano Beach and a small portion in South Ponte Vedra Beach.

  • Vilano Beach receives much needed sand

    Vilano Beach is receiving beach-compatible sand through the beneficial use of dredged material from navigation projects, helping to reduce vulnerabilities and improve coastal resiliency in a community north of the St. Augustine Inlet. A wider beach will help separate storm waves from upland structures and infrastructure.
