  • USACE celebrates the completion of construction for the Kissimmee River Restoration Project

    Today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District (USACE) hosted a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the completion of the construction for the Kissimmee River Restoration Project. The Kissimmee River Restoration Project restores more than 40 square miles of the river floodplain ecosystem, 20,000 acres of wetlands, and 44 miles of the historic river channel.

  • Corps announces public comment on temporary deviation to support Kissimmee River Restoration

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District, announces public comment on the draft Expedited Environmental Assessment (EA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) associated with a planned temporary deviation to the 1981 Lake Kissimmee, Hatchineha and Cypress Interim Regulation Schedule. Public comments are due March 16.

  • Corps announces additional changes to navigation on Kissimmee River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District is implementing additional navigation restrictions for boaters along roughly 10 miles of the lower Kissimmee River basin. Earlier this summer, the Corps closed a portion of the canal seven miles upstream to three miles downstream of the U.S. Highway 98 bridge located near Basinger approximately 20 miles northwest of Okeechobee. Now the Corps is advising boaters that the historic oxbows in the vicinity are also closed to navigation.

  • Corps offers series of webinars on Lake O water management

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District will offer a series of lunchtime webinars to provide background information on water management in south Florida as it pertains to Lake Okeechobee and the region. Jacksonville District staff will conduct six webinars, the first beginning at noon, May 20. The intent is to provide information to the public on the Central & Southern Florida Project water management system as work continues on the new Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM).

  • Corps announces changes to Kissimmee River lower basin navigation

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District continues work towards bringing the Kissimmee River Restoration project to completion. Ongoing construction in the Kissimmee River lower basin is limiting navigation between water control Structures 65A and 65D. To access the river north of the construction activities, boaters are advised to use the Structure 65 boat ramp off U.S. Highway 60 on the west side of the structure. Navigation will remain open both north and south of the Istokpoga Canal boat ramp. Navigation south of the construction site is available via the Structure 65D Boat Ramp.

  • Corps awards final construction contract for Kissimmee River Restoration

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has awarded the final construction contract for the Kissimmee River Restoration Project, a massive Everglades restoration project in Okeechobee and Highlands counties.The $17,887,000 S-69 Weir and Canal Backfill construction contract was awarded to Herve Cody Contractor from Robbinsville, North Carolina on September 26.

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has awarded one of the four remaining construction contracts for the Kissimmee River Restoration project, moving this large-scale Everglades restoration project one step closer to completion.
