U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to host two Regulatory meetings in U.S. Virgin Islands

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District will host its final Regulatory Division Open House Wed., Sept. 3 at the Charles W. Turnbull Regional Library, 4607 Tutu Park Mall, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.  Doors open at 8 a.m. and a series of presentations begins at 8:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The theme for the 2014 Open House series is “Strategies for Success,” focusing on the latest information concerning mitigation, endangered species, indirect effects and alternatives analysis. A presentation will also be included relative to specific issues in the Virgin Islands. Seven events have previously been completed throughout Florida and in Puerto Rico.

The Army Corps of Engineers will also host a public meeting Thurs., Sept. 25 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Charles. W. Turnbull Regional Library to discuss the permit application by Coral World, Inc. for construction of a nearshore dolphin exhibit enclosure and landside support and visitor education center.

“We know there is a great deal of interest in the proposed Coral World project and we want to be able to devote some time outside of our scheduled general Open House to hear from interested parties on that particular topic,” explained Donnie Kinard, chief of the Regulatory Division.
