Published Sept. 27, 2012

Jacksonville, Fla. (Sept. 27, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announced today that Canaveral Lock will be partially closed for upcoming repairs to the Chamber Guide Wall. The existing West End of the South Guide Wall has suffered a structural failure and the remaining portion is in very poor condition due to age. A contract is expected to be awarded in the next few weeks to replace the Chamber Guide Wall.

Canaveral Lock is scheduled to begin operating under restrictions beginning October 2012 through March 2013. During the work, the lock will be opened for vessel traffic, one lockage each direction Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

There will be no lock restriction on the weekends. However, any vessel that requires greater than 45-feet horizontal clearance will need to be scheduled for passage 7 days in advance with the Lock Master to allow for construction vessel movements, regardless of the weekday or weekend.

The Lock Master can be reached at 321-783-5421. For the latest information regarding the lock status, please contact 904-232-2103.
