Published Feb. 9, 2011

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2011) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District will soon conduct major dewatering, excavation and fill operations on the L-40 levee and canal adjacent to the Site 1 Impoundment project boundary.  For public safety, access to the L-40 levee and canal will be closed to the public between Loxahatchee Road and continuing north for approximately three miles until October 9, 2012.

The overall purpose of the project is to improve hydrology patterns in the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge and the estuarine area at the mouth of the Hillsboro Canal by capturing and storing excess water currently discharged via the canal to the Intracoastal Waterway.
