JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 2, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, announced today that it will begin Phase 2 work of the Miami-Dade County Shore Protection project in Miami Beach May 7.
During this phase of construction sand will be removed from an accreted portion of the beach between 10th Street and 18th Street and will be placed via pipeline to the highly eroded areas in the vicinity of 27th Street and 44th Street. Construction efforts for Phase 1 in the vicinity of 63rd to 69th Street have been completed.
Periodic closure of beach segments in these areas is expected. The closed areas will be clearly marked and fenced. The public is urged to use caution in these areas. Work is expected to be completed by early November 2012.
