Public comment sought for definition of Economically Disadvantaged Community in relation to Section 160 of the Water Resources Development Act of 2020

Jacksonville, Florida (July 22, 2022) – The U.S. Department of the Army, Civil Works, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), is seeking public comment as it undertakes an effort to modernize the USACE Civil Works program through a number of related policy initiatives.

To that end, and in accordance with Section 160 of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2020, the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works is gathering public input on the definition of the term “economically disadvantaged community” and other related terms as they apply to the development of water resources development projects.

In depth discussion of the definitions and issues under consideration are described in the Notice of Virtual Public and Tribal Meetings Regarding the Modernization of Army Civil Works Policy Priorities, etc., as published in the Federal Register at www.federalregister.gov/d/2022-11881.

The public are encouraged to review the notice and provide comments to regarding this modernization process; instructions for electronic (email) and U.S. Postal Service submission are provided in the notice.

Comments received by Aug. 2, 2022, will be reviewed and considered as U.S. Army, Civil Works, develops the final definitions, which will apply to the study, development and implementation of WRDA 2020 projects.
