    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Miami-Dade County Division of Environmental Resources Management and the City of Miami Beach will host a public meeting July 12 for the Miami Beach erosional Hotspots beach renourishment project, part of the Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project.
  • Corps awards contract for Miami Beach erosional Hotspots beach renourishment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District awarded a contract on June 30 to Eastman Aggregate Enterprises, LLC, of Lake Worth, Florida, for $11,889,480.65, for the Miami Beach Hotspots beach renourishment project, part of the Miami-Dade County Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District invites the public to comment on the St. Lucie County Coastal Storm Risk Management Study. A public comment period starts Monday, May 2, and ends June 17, 2016. The Corps and St. Lucie County will host a meeting June 2 at Jensen Beach.
  • Corps finalizes environmental assessment on sand sources for Miami-Dade beach renourishments

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has concluded that the proposed use of alternative sand sources throughout the remaining period of federal participation in the Dade County, Florida Beach Erosion Control and Hurricane Protection Project will cause no significant impacts to the environment.
  • Corps suspends swimming activities at Franklin Recreation Area

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has temporarily suspended swimming and other water activities at the W.P. Franklin South Recreation Area located near Fort Myers. The Corps was notified this afternoon by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) that an algal bloom upstream of the beach had tested positive for microcystin, a substance produced by freshwater cyanobacteria. Tests of water in the immediate vicinity of the beach were negative. However, the Corps has decided to suspend water activities at the beach until further notice.
  • Corps invites comment on Lido Key Beach sand source draft environmental assessment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces the availability of the draft Finding of No Significant Impact and Draft Environmental Assessment of additional sand sources for the Lido Key Hurricane and Storm Damage Reduction Project in Sarasota County. The Corps’ preferred alternative includes the use of material from the Big Sarasota Pass ebb shoal for placement on 2.4 miles of Lido Beach shoreline.
  • Corps completes Broward County beach renourishment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District completed final inspections recently on the Broward County Beach Erosion Control Project, which reconstructed approximately 5.1 miles of eroded shoreline.
  • Public invited to comment on the Flagler County draft shoreline study

    Jacksonville, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District invites the public to review and comment on the Flagler County, Fla., Hurricane and Storm Damage Reduction Project Draft Integrated Feasibility Study and Environmental Assessment. The open comment period starts tomorrow, Jan. 17, and ends Feb. 17.
  • Broward County Beach Erosion Control update

    Jacksonville, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces passing the halfway mark on Broward County Beach Erosion Control Project construction. Approximately 80,000 cubic-yards of beach quality sand now lies on 3.5 miles of shoreline between the Hillsboro Inlet and Washingtonia Avenue.
  • Pinellas County Beach Erosion Control Project begins

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announced today that construction operations will begin for the Pinellas County Beach Erosion Control Project in January. A portion of the work is in response to impacts from Tropical Storm Debby’s passage in 2012, and is 100% federally funded under the Flood Control and Coastal Emergency (FCCE) program.
