4. STATUS

FY22 maintenance dredging was completed between January and April 2022 and removed approximately 293,000 cubic yards of material from the entrance channel, the settling basins, the inner channel, and the turning basins. The material was placed within the project’s permitted beach disposal area along the Town of Palm Beach’s shoreline between Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) R-monuments R-76 to R-79.

FY23 maintenance dredging was completed between February and March 2023 and removed approximately 250,000 cubic yards of material from the entrance channel and the settling basins. The material was placed along the Town of Palm Beach’s permitted shoreline between R-77 and R-80. Funding for the maintenance event was provided by FY22 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and FY23 President’s Budget.

Approximately 4.8 acres of the northern turning basin was deauthorized in WRDA 2022 at the request of the Port of Palm Beach.  The deauthorized area is in proximity to Berth 1 of the port.

The FY24 maintenance dredging event is currently underway and is expected to be completed in May/June 2024. Approximately 100,000 cubic yards of material is planned to be removed from the entrance channel and the settling basins and placed in the designated nearshore placement area located south of the inlet.

North Jetty Repair Status – A contract award was executed in September 2020. Construction was completed in February 2021. The repairs include restacking displaced stone and hauling in new stone to return the jetty to its original construction template. A total of 49 new stones were placed in the project’s four areas of the north jetty.
