U.S. Navy - Kings Bay Entrance Channel

1. DESCRIPTION
The authorized military project coincides with the authorized civil works project, Fernandina Harbor, to the entrance of the Amelia River. The authorized project provides for a channel 46 feet deep and 500 feet wide from the ocean to the entrance of Amelia River where the channel turns north and transitions to 45 feet deep and 500 feet wide. The channel then continues north to Drum Island where it transitions to 44 feet deep and 500 feet wide and turns into Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.

4. STATUS
The Kings Bay Entrance Channel is dredged annually and is funded 100% with Navy funding. The FY23 contract is physically complete. The FY24 contract is scheduled to be awarded in September 2023 and commence in December 2023.
Non-beach quality material will be placed in the Offshore Dredge Material Disposal Site (ODMDS) and beach quality material will be placed on Fernandina Beach, Florida and/or Fort Clinch Park, Florida. This project returns the channel to its authorized dimensions and allows for the safe passage of Trident Submarines into King's Bay Trident Submarine Base from the Atlantic Ocean.
