Investigations(I)
Congressional Districts: 8,9,10,11,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,26,27,28

1. DESCRIPTION

The study will investigate cost-effective structural and nonstructural projects for implementation that provide a systemwide approach for the purposes of inland flood risk, coastal flood risk, water supply, restoration, and recreation.  Intent of this study shall ensure the study and any projects recommended will not interfere with the efforts undertaken to carry out the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan pursuant to section 601 of the Water Resources Development Act of 2000 (114 Stat. 2680; 132 Stat. 3786). The general scope of the study includes identification of various cost-effective alternatives to increase system-wide resiliency and comprehensive improvements or modifications with focus on comprehensive benefits. The study will address effects from compound flooding, climate variability and incorporate natural and nature-based features to enhance benefits.

2. FUNDING

$50,000,000

Estimated Federal Cost                              $25,000,000

a. Regular Civil Works Funds:

Allocation thru FY23

$0

Allocation for FY24                                     $0
President's Budget FY25 $0

3. SPONSOR

The geographic area of the study includes two water management districts likely resulting in two non-federal sponsors:

South Florida Water Management District

3301 Gun Club Road

West Palm Beach, Florida 33406

St. Johns River Water Management District

4049 Reid Street

Palatka, Florida 32178

4. STATUS

Funding is required to begin development of the feasibility cost share agreement (FCSA). The FCSA is anticipated to be more complex and require more time to execute than typical agreements due to geographic scope, breadth of the authority, and likelihood of two non-federal sponsors. It is expected that ample coordination with both non-federal sponsors will be required to flesh out potential scope and cost during development of the FCSA.
