1. DESCRIPTION
The Municipality of Aibonito is located midway between San Juan and Ponce in Puerto Rico, specifically, west of Cayey on PR 14 and northwest of PR 52. The Rio de Aibonito flows through the Municipality of Aibonito's downtown area as a tributary to the greater Rio de La Plata (one of largest flood plains located in Puerto Rico). Severe flooding every year threatens residents living in the Rio Aibonito sub- basin by restricting their access to the local hospital to receive medical care, causes property damage to homes and business resulting from basin flooding, and presents a life safety threat to the residents living in flood prone areas of the municipality.
This project is authorized by Section 205, Flood Control Act of 1948 as amended.
