St. Johns County (Vilano Segment), FL Shore Protection Project
Congressional Districts: 4, 6
The ocean shoreline of St. Johns County is approximately 42 miles long. The St. Johns County Coastal Storm Risk Management Project includes critically eroded shoreline in South Ponte Vedra Beach and Vilano Beach. Extreme erosion north of the St. Augustine Inlet due to the 2016 and 2017 Hurricane seasons has compounded the need for completion of design and construction. The authorized plan includes placement of sand along 3 miles of shoreline in Vilano Beach and South Ponte Vedra Beach. The plan also calls for 3 renourishments (at 12-year intervals) over the project life.
