1. DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this study is to address protection of critical infrastructure, reduction of structure damages, and evacuation route protection in response to the risks and effects of coastal storms and associated impacts such as sea level rise, storm surge, and extreme wind and tidal effects.   

2. FUNDING

Project is funded under P.L. 115-123: Bi-Partisan Budget Act of 2018, Supplemental. Project is brokered to Norfolk District (NAO). NAO manages the project to include the funding and financial data.

4. STATUS

This study started its official three-year timeline in October 2018 and concluded with a Chief’s report in September 2021. A successful Tentatively Selected Plan (TSP) Milestone meeting was held on 16 January 2020 resulting in an approval of the TSP identified by the Norfolk District.  The Agency Decision Milestone was held in October 2020 resulting in an approval of the recommended plan identified by Norfolk District. The Chief’s Report was signed on 24 September 2021. The project is pending authorization in the next Water Resources Development Act (WRDA 2022). Capability was expressed in the FY22 Work Plan for Preconstruction, Engineering & Design (PED). If approved, funds will be used for execution of the design agreement and to initiate plans and specifications for design of U.S. 1 revetments and shore stabilization (6 sections).
