The Intracoastal Waterway (IWW) project authorizes a channel 12 feet deep by 125 feet wide from Jacksonville, Florida south to Fort Pierce, Florida, and a channel 10 feet deep by 125 feet wide from Ft. Pierce, Florida south to Miami, Florida. The length of project is approximately 349 miles running from the St. Johns River in northeast Florida southward along the east coast to Miami, Florida.

On 3 September 1997, the US Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District and FIND executed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to contribute funds for the Operation and Maintenance of both the Intracoastal Waterway (IWW) and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW). Since that date, FIND has provided over $70,000,000 for the O&M of the IWW and AIWW.

In 2021 O&M dredging was complete for the Jupiter and Crossroad reaches of the IWW.  Additionally, a contract was awarded for construction of Dredge Material Management Area (DMMA) O-23 and for O&M dredging of the Palm Valley North Reach, both of which will be complete in FY 2022.  Funding in FY 2022 will be used to complete plans & specifications for the Palm Valley South Reach of the IWW.  If additional funding is received plans & specifications will be developed for the Volusia Reach of the IWW.
