The last maintenance dredging contract was performed in 1981. The harbor received damages from Hurricane Maria & Irma. As a result, Mayaguez Harbor received funding to remove shoaled material resulting from the storm impacts. The contract to dredge approximately 100k Cubic Yards of material was awarded in January 2020. Mayaguez Harbor is an option to the Base Contract awarded and the option is expected to be executed on June 2020. This effort was completed on November 2020.
