Mayaguez Harbor PR

Operation and Maintenance (O&M)

1. DESCRIPTION

The project is on the west coast of Puerto Rico, about 120 miles west of San Juan. The authorized project provides for an approach channel to the deep-water terminal, 30 feet deep, 1,000 feet wide at seaward end, decreasing to 500 feet width opposite westerly end of terminal, thence same width to easterly end of terminal.

4. STATUS

The last maintenance dredging contract was performed in 1981. The harbor received damages from Hurricane Maria & Irma. The next maintenance event is scheduled for award in September 2019. Section 103 concurrence, which is for the use of ocean disposal site with EPA, was initiated in the summer of FY 2018. This effort will be completed by June of 2019. Advertisement of the project is scheduled for July 2019. Approximately 100K Cubic Yards of material is estimated to be dredged.
