Corps Water Infrastructure Financing Program Receives Funding in Appropriations Bill

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Corps Water Infrastructure Financing Program (CWIFP) received funding for the first time ever in the Fiscal 2021 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act signed into law by President Donald J. Trump yesterday as part of the Fiscal 2021 Consolidated Appropriations Act. CWIFP, authorized by the Water Infrastructure Financing and Innovation Act (WIFIA) in 2014, will accelerate non-federal investments in water resources infrastructure by providing long-term, low-cost loans to creditworthy borrowers.

U.S. Naval Station Kings Bay Entrance Channel dredging, Fernandina Beach re-nourishment under way

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has begun scheduled maintenance dredging of the U.S. Naval Station Kings Bay entrance channel. The district awarded a $15.8 million contract Nov. 23, 2020, to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, LLC, of Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., for the project. The Corps issued the firm a notice to proceed Dec. 9. The City of Fernandina Beach in the non-federal sponsor of the project.

Corps awards contract for maintenance dredging of the Okeechobee Waterway

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, awarded a contract for maintenance dredging of the Okeechobee Waterway in sections of the St. Lucie River in Martin County. Work is expected to begin in early 2021.

The Jacksonville District announced today the continuation of gradual reductions of Lake Okeechobee releases to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee rivers after beginning the transition to dry season operations Dec. 5.

Corps to start reducing flows out of Lake Okeechobee

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will start reducing outflows from Lake Okeechobee to the estuaries, starting Saturday, December 5. USACE will reduce releases from Lake Okeechobee gradually to allow time for the ecosystems of the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie rivers and estuaries to adjust.
