  • USACE monitors blue-green algae conditions and adjusts releases at Port Mayaca Lock and Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District is closely monitoring, in coordination with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), blue-green algae conditions at Port Mayaca Lock and Dam (S-308) after receiving aerial imagery showing a thin ribbon of algal mass moving towards the gate yesterday.

  • Lake Okeechobee releases planned for Sediment Study on February 21 through 24

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District plans to execute a minor adjustment to the current lake release schedule from Tuesday, February 21 through Friday, February 24, that will release water from Lake Okeechobee as part of an ongoing sediment study by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District invites partners, stakeholders, and the public to join us for to a Virtual Project Delivery Team (PDT) Meeting for the Western Everglades Restoration Project (WERP) on Friday, February 24, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. “We invite Project Delivery Team members, tribes, landowners, partners, stakeholders and the public to join us at a Virtual Project Delivery Team Meeting on the Western Everglades Restoration Project,” said WERP Project Manager Steve Baisden. “Members of the PDT and the public will have an opportunity to receive an update on the replacement of the Wingate Mill STA feature and path forward.”

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, will conduct a public scoping meeting Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, to present, discuss and gather public comment regarding its recently initiated planning for a City of St. Augustine Back Bay Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) Feasibility Study.

  • Jacksonville District to host Community Drop-In Meeting Announcing start of First Phase of Naval Air Station Banana River Off-Base Disposal Area Remedial Investigation Fieldwork

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is moving forward with the first phase of the Remedial Investigation field work (ground penetrating radar) at the Naval Air Station Banana River Off-Base Disposal Area, a Formerly Used Defense Site.

  • USACE requests public comments and hosts virtual meeting Feb. 24 on draft documents for the Kissimmee River Restoration Project (KRRP) Increment 1 Temporary Deviation

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District requests public comment on the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the proposed Kissimmee River Restoration Project (KRRP) Increment 1 Temporary Deviation, Osceola and Polk counties, Florida. The project non-Federal sponsor is the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). Comments are due March 7. A virtual informational meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 24, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. There will be an opportunity for formal public comment during the meeting.

  • USACE and SFWMD announce four virtual workshops in February for development of C&SF Flood Resiliency Study alternatives

    The Jacksonville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the South Florida Water Management District will host a series of four virtual workshops in February as part of the C&SF Flood Resiliency Study. Each workshop is a standalone session that will focus on development of preliminary alternatives for one of the planning reaches discussed at the planning charrettes held on January 11 and 12. Each session will also include a recap of the problems, opportunities, objectives, and constraints collaboratively developed on the first day of the planning charrette. The management measures and conceptual ideas developed for each planning reach on day 2 of the charrettes held in January will provide the starting point for preliminary alternative development.
