  • USACE announces BBSEER Project Delivery Team Meeting on June 30

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces a Project Delivery Team (PDT) Meeting for the Biscayne Bay and Southeastern Everglades Ecosystem Restoration (BBSEER) Project Study on Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 1 to 3 p.m. “The purpose of this Project Delivery Team Meeting is to review model assumptions for the existing condition and future without project baselines prior to completing development and modeling in the Regional Simulation Model. The model assumptions were developed by the Interagency Modeling Center in collaboration with the BBSEER plan formulation and model subteams. The existing condition and future without project baselines will be used to measure the performance of the alternative plans. BBSEER alternative plans are intended to restore freshwater flows to terrestrial and coastal wetlands in Biscayne Bay and the Southeastern Everglades,” said April Patterson, BBSEER Senior Project Manager. “We appreciate the continued engagement of the interagency Project Delivery Team and members of the public during the planning phase of this complex project. Your participation during our extended meetings and workshops, your input, local knowledge, expertise and shared data are absolutely critical to the development and success of this project.”
  • Lake Okeechobee releases planned for Sediment Study on June 22

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District plans to execute a minor deviation June 22 that will release water from the lake as part of an ongoing sediment study by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The releases will affect only the Julian Keen, Jr. Lock and Dam (S-77) as water is released to support the study.
  • USACE seeks comments on Third Revised Draft PIR and Supplemental EIS for the Lake Okeechobee Watershed Restoration Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District (USACE) announces a 45-day public comment period for the Lake Okeechobee Watershed Restoration Project Third Revised Draft Project Implementation Report and Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (PIR/SEIS). Comments are due Monday, August 1, 2022. The report, along with information about the project and instructions on how to provide comments, can be found at www.saj.usace.army.mil/LOWRP/
  • USACE begins beach placement on Indian Beach Park segment of ongoing shoreline protection project in Miami Beach

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Miami Beach Renourishment project will begin sand placement at the southern end of the Indian Beach Park section of the project (beginning at approximately 43rd Street) starting the week of June 13, 2022.
  • USACE Prepares for Potential Tropical Storm

    USACE will not make any pre-storm releases from Lake Okeechobee or any of the canals it operates, but it will begin closing all structures on the Herbert Hoover Dike later today and suspend all scheduled releases from the lake until the storm has passed.
