    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces a 30-day public comment period for the supplemental Environmental Assessment (EA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for incorporation of backfill treatments constructed in the L-67C Canal associated with the Installation, Testing, and Monitoring of a Physical Model for the Water Conservation Area (WCA 3) Decompartmentalization and Sheetflow Enhancement Project, known as the “Decomp Physical Model” into the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) (South Phase). Comments are due Feb. 23, 2022.

  • St. Lucie Lock recreation area closes for Lock scheduled maintenance repairs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces the temporary closure of some recreational facilities at the St. Lucie Lock and Dam in advance of scheduled repairs. The St. Lucie Visitor Center, lock observation decks and the St. Lucie North Recreation Area will be closed effective immediately in preparation for upcoming major maintenance work in the area, and will remain closed until the project is complete. The dewatering and repairs to the St. Lucie Lock and Dam are scheduled to begin January 4 and the project is expected to be complete by April 2022.
  • USACE and SFWMD celebrate Indian River Lagoon-South C-44 Reservoir and Stormwater Treatment Area Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

    INDIANTOWN, Fla.-Today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District (USACE) and South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) hosted a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the ceremonial filling of the Indian River Lagoon- South C-44 Reservoir and Stormwater Treatment Area. “We are here with our outstanding partners at the South Florida Water Management District to cut the ribbon and celebrate the ceremonial filling of the C-44 Reservoir,” said Col. James Booth, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District Commander. “This Everglades restoration project is massive in scale – the reservoir alone is roughly two miles by 3 miles wide. The C-44 component of the Indian River Lagoon-South project will capture, store, and treat local runoff from the C-44 basin, revitalize habitat in the Indian River Lagoon, help restore the balance of fresh and salt water in the Indian River Lagoon and the St. Lucie Estuary, and provide significant water quality improvements.”
  • Lake Okeechobee Sediment Study Postponed

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will delay the previously announced sediment study scheduled for Nov. 9 after heavy rains across Florida led to heavier local basin runoff in the Caloosahatchee River Estuary than originally forecast.
