USACE to host RECOVER Monthly Virtual Informational Meeting

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Jacksonville District will host a Restoration, Coordination, Verification (RECOVER) monthly virtual informational meeting, Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

RECOVER is an interdisciplinary collaboration of agencies, tribes, and institutions that conducts scientific and technical evaluations and assessments to improve the ability of Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) to restore, preserve, and protect the South Florida ecosystem while providing for the region’s other water-related needs.

RECOVER applies a system-wide perspective to the planning and implementation of the CERP and communicates and coordinates the results of these evaluations and assessments to managers, decision makers, and the public.

The RECOVER Monthly Virtual Informational Meeting will focus on new tools for predicting and assessing Harmful Algae Blooms (HABs) in Lake Okeechobee and the Northern Estuaries.

The meeting will introduce RECOVER to new approaches to predict and evaluate HABs in Lake Okeechobee and the Northern Estuaries.

Agenda topics include:

  • Lake Okeechobee hydrodynamic and biogeochemical chlorophyll hierarchical additive zonal model - can we plan for the future?
  • Monitoring Algal Blooms and Water Turbidity in Lake Okeechobee and Northern Estuaries from Space
  • Tracking and Assessing Cyanobacterial blooms in Lake Okeechobee
  • Integrating models to forecast algal blooms in the Caloosahatchee, Lake Okeechobee and the St. Lucie Estuary
  • USACE Freshwater HAB Research & Development Initiative, Florida Updates
  • Operational Forecasting of Harmful Algal Blooms in Florida Lakes Using a TwoStage Bayesian Model
