  • Corps maintains current flows from Lake Okeechobee

    The Corps will continue to release water from the lake to the Caloosahatchee in a pulse pattern that averages 650 cubic feet per second (cfs) over a seven-day period measured at the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam (S-79). No releases are planned through the St. Lucie Lock and Dam (S-80).

  • Okeechobee Waterway Shoreline Management Plan FONSI available for public review

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has started a public review of the proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Lake Okeechobee and Okeechobee Waterway Shoreline Management Plan (SMP). Comments are due Feb. 6, 2020.

  • Corps of Engineers issues permit decision on Ridge Road Extension project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a Department of Army permit in accordance with Section 404 of the Clean Water Act for the extension of Ridge Road from its present terminus at Moon Lake Road / DeCubellis Road to U.S Highway 41 at its intersection with Connerton Boulevard in Pasco County, Florida. The permit was issues Dec. 20.

  • USACE coordina con las agencias de Puerto Rico para preservar los artefactos encontrados en el yacimiento arqueológico de Dorado

    El Cuerpo de Ingenieros del Ejército de los Estados Unidos, (USACE por sus siglas en inglés), contrató a la firma Southeastern Archaeological Research, Inc (SEARCH) para realizar estudios arqueológicos, en un área identificada dentro de los límites de construcción del proyecto de control in Dorado, Puerto Rico. La metodología y procedimientos propuestos por la firma, para todas las actividades, fue aprobada por el USACE y consultada con la Oficina de Preservación Histórica de Puerto Rico (SHPO) según requerido por la Sección 106 de la Ley Nacional de Preservación Histórica. Los materiales arqueológicos recuperados en las excavaciones del Rio de La Plata incluyen cerámica, líticos y osamentas.

  • USACE coordinates with Puerto Rico agencies to preserve artifacts found at Dorado archeological site

    San Juan, Puerto Rico - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contracted Southeastern Archaeological Research, Inc, to conduct cultural resources surveys at the site of the Rio de La Plata flood control project in Dorado, Puerto Rico. Methodology for all surveys conducted by SEARCH has been approved by USACE and coordinated with the Puerto Rico State Historic Preservation Officer in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. In 2018, USACE hired the archaeological research firm to evaluate the archaeological find at the site of the La Plata flood control project in Dorado in order to consider its eligibility and inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). USACE, in coordination with SHPO, determined that the archeological finding is eligible for inclusion in the NRHP and that it will provide important information about the pre-history of Puerto Rico.

  • USACE announces dry-season strategy for Lake O water management

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has announced its strategy for management of water in Lake Okeechobee over the coming months. In a column posted to the Jacksonville District website December 19, Jacksonville District Commander Col. Andrew Kelly stated that the Corps would focus on retaining water in the lake while providing freshwater flows to the Caloosahatchee River as long as possible.

  • Corps announces additional changes to navigation on Kissimmee River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District is implementing additional navigation restrictions for boaters along roughly 10 miles of the lower Kissimmee River basin. Earlier this summer, the Corps closed a portion of the canal seven miles upstream to three miles downstream of the U.S. Highway 98 bridge located near Basinger approximately 20 miles northwest of Okeechobee. Now the Corps is advising boaters that the historic oxbows in the vicinity are also closed to navigation.
