  • USACE finishes transition to Lake Okeechobee dry season operations

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District finished its transition into dry season operations on Lake Okeechobee and starting this week will target a low-level release of 1,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) to the Caloosahatchee from the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam while ceasing releases east to the St. Lucie. These low-level dry season releases aim to manage lake levels over time while also providing beneficial flows to the Caloosahatchee Estuary.

    The Report to Congress on the progress of the restoration of America’s Everglades is now available to the public on the Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District website. This report, jointly filed by the Secretaries of the Army and Interior, is the fourth in a series of periodic reports required under the Water Resources Development Act of 2000.

  • Corps Water Infrastructure Financing Program Receives Funding in Appropriations Bill

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Corps Water Infrastructure Financing Program (CWIFP) received funding for the first time ever in the Fiscal 2021 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act signed into law by President Donald J. Trump yesterday as part of the Fiscal 2021 Consolidated Appropriations Act. CWIFP, authorized by the Water Infrastructure Financing and Innovation Act (WIFIA) in 2014, will accelerate non-federal investments in water resources infrastructure by providing long-term, low-cost loans to creditworthy borrowers.

  • Corps' Jacksonville District prepares for State 404 Assumption

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announced the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA,) has approved the State of Florida’s request to assume administration of a portion of the Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 404 program.

  • U.S. Naval Station Kings Bay Entrance Channel dredging, Fernandina Beach re-nourishment under way

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has begun scheduled maintenance dredging of the U.S. Naval Station Kings Bay entrance channel. The district awarded a $15.8 million contract Nov. 23, 2020, to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, LLC, of Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., for the project. The Corps issued the firm a notice to proceed Dec. 9. The City of Fernandina Beach in the non-federal sponsor of the project.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has released a Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Study (DSEIS) of the Port Everglades Harbor deepening project for public review and comment.

  • Corps awards contract for maintenance dredging of the Okeechobee Waterway

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, awarded a contract for maintenance dredging of the Okeechobee Waterway in sections of the St. Lucie River in Martin County. Work is expected to begin in early 2021.

  • Jacksonville District continues Lake Okeechobee Release Reductions

    The Jacksonville District announced today the continuation of gradual reductions of Lake Okeechobee releases to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee rivers after beginning the transition to dry season operations Dec. 5.

  • Corps to start reducing flows out of Lake Okeechobee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District will start reducing outflows from Lake Okeechobee to the estuaries, starting Saturday, December 5. USACE will reduce releases from Lake Okeechobee gradually to allow time for the ecosystems of the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie rivers and estuaries to adjust.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hosts virtual meetings for the Puerto Rico Coastal Study

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Jacksonville District will host two public webinars for the Puerto Rico Coastal Study to present the draft Integrated Feasibility Report, Environmental Assessment, and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact. The webinars will occur December 10 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Puerto Rico time (9 a.m. and 3 p.m. EST). Both meetings will be presented simultaneously in English and Spanish.
