(Nov. 9, 2022)– Bravo Zulu is an often-used Navy phrase that means “Good Job” or “Well Done.” As Hurricane Nicole makes its way toward Florida’s east coast, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District South Florida Operations team prepares for a possible tropical storm or Category 1 hurricane and is securing facilities, providing information to boaters and campers on operational adjustments to navigation, recreation, and Lake Okeechobee operations to keep them safe.

    The new pilings being driven into place at the Canaveral Lock are a win-win. Not only are they more environmentally friendly than traditional pilings, but they are expected to last longer and save money in the end.

    Operations Division overcomes challenges

    “2013 was a year full of challenges,” said Jim Jeffords, Operations Division chief. “Our biggest challenge was the historical rain event that occurred from April to July. The event tested all aspects of the district – our water managers, inspections of the dike, emergency operations, dam safety and corporate communications.”
