USACE Jacksonville, Daytona Flood Risk Management Feasibility Study 2024

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, invites the public to attend either or both of two presentation and discussion workshops for the City of Daytona Beach Flood Risk Management Feasibility Study.

The workshops will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the John H. Dickerson Community Center, 308 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Daytona Beach, Florida, 32114. An afternoon session will begin at 2 p.m. and an evening session will begin at 6 p.m. No pre-registration is necessary, all are welcome.

The study aim is to investigate, analyze and propose alternative mitigation responses to chronic flooding within the city’s Midtown section. That area is bounded by the Nova Canal, Orange Avenue, Ridgewood Avenue and Beville Road. The study area is surrounded by higher ground, which creates a bowl-shaped topography that is highly susceptible to flooding during major storm events. The roughly 2-square-mile area, is home to some 8,000 residents and 2,800 structures, including residences and a variety of civic and business entities.

USACE Jacksonville subject matter experts and city representatives will address the study’s aim of analyzing causes and proposing alternative solutions for the Midtown flooding, risk elements and potential benefits, as well as an overview of the study process, its funding and projected duration.

Informal discussion with residents and breakout sessions to address issues of particular concern will be part of each workshop.

For those who cannot attend in person, the workshops will be accessible online via a Teams link. Sign in at this link: DaytonaFRM-Weblink.  Enter meeting ID 245-641-230-75 and passcode RTDyxv when prompted.
