1. DESCRIPTION
The project extends along 25 miles of island beaches from Dunedin Pass to Pass-a-Grille Pass. The project provides for the restoration of 1 mile of shoreline on Clearwater Beach Island, restoration of 9.3 miles of shoreline on Sand Key, restoration of 1.7 miles of shoreline on Treasure Island, nourishment of 1 mile of shoreline on Long Key, and periodic nourishment, as needed, along the entire length of the four segments.

4. STATUS
Renourishment of the Sand Key, Treasure Island, and northern portion of the Long Key segment was completed in 2018 following Hurricane Hermine and Hurricane Irma impacts to the County beaches. Construction costs totaled approximately $52M, with over $22M in Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies (FCCE) funding.
The Bi-Partisan Infrastructure Law (P.L. 117-58) appropriated $17,135,000 for the Pinellas County, FL Beach Erosion Control project. The team prepared plans and specifications for the Treasure Island and Long Key segments in FY23, but the award has been delayed until the perpetual easements are received. Lands Requests have been provided to the non-federal sponsor. This award was assumed to be the final renourishment of Treasure Island (2031 expiration) and Long Key (2030 expiration) under the current authorization. The specified sand sources for this event were Johns Pass (federal channel), Blind Pass (non-federal channel), and Pass-a-Grille Pass (federal channel). As of May 2025, Sand Key has a positive PIR following hurricane Idalia (2023) and PIRs are being drafted for all three segments following hurricanes Helene and Milton (2024).
A Chief’s Report was signed in October 2021 and WRDA 2022 provided new authority for the Treasure Island and Long Key segments.
