Jacksonville's district Environmental and Hazardous, Toxic and Radioactive Waste Section Chief, Rebecca Lee-Duffel and Environmental Engineer Javier Cortes participated in the 12th annual Earth Day expo in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico. The event was an opportunity for the installation's Department of Public Works along with federal, state and local agencies to provide environmental awareness as well as distribute educational material and present current ideas to the community regarding this year's theme "Land Resources Management for Mission Readiness." The event was attended by students from Fort Buchanan's elementary, middle and high school. Many of the high school students whose interested include engineering, biology and science asked about what type of future career opportunities the Corps has available. The event also provided an opportunity to talk about water safety with the students.
