Maj. Matthew Westcott assumed responsibility as the Deputy District Commander of the Jacksonville District, U.S Army Corps of Engineers in July 2024.

 

Maj. Matt Westcott hails from Columbus, GA. He graduated from North Georgia College and State University in December of 2008, and he holds a M.S. from The Georgia Institute of Technology. He commissioned from ROTC into the Corps of Engineers upon graduation from North Georgia and was immediately placed on active duty.
 

Upon completion of the Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Leonard Wood, MO he served as a Route Clearance Platoon Leader in 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He then transitioned to become an Armor Company Executive Officer for the same battalion. Upon completion of service at the 3rd Infantry Division, he attended the Engineer Captains Career Course, and Maj. Westcott then was assigned to the 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) in Vicenza, Italy where he served as a Company Commander
 

Following command, Maj. Westcott attended Georgia Tech, with follow-on duty to the Fort Worth District’s Resident Engineer Field Office in Fort Johnson, LA. He was then attended Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas before being assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Upon arrival to the 101st, he served as a battalion S3 and Executive Officer in 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.
 

Maj. Westcott was then assigned to the Headquarters, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he served as the Chief of Current Operations in the G-3. He currently serves as the Deputy Commander of the Jacksonville District, South Atlantic Division.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, Iraqi Freedom Campaign Medal, the Combat Action Badge, Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.

Maj Westcott and his wife, Louise Clohessy of Limerick, Ireland, have two children: Maximilian and Hunter.
