  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issues scoping letter for Shingle Creek Feasibility Study

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 31, 2025) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District is beginning preparation of a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document for the Shingle Creek and Kissimmee River Flood Resiliency Study, referred to hereafter as the Shingle Creek Feasibility Study, in partnership with our non-Federal sponsor, Osceola County, Florida. The project was authorized by section 201(a)(5) of the Water Resources Development Act of 2020, Public Law 116-260, for flood risk management and section 8201(b)(2) of the Water resources Development Act of 2022, Public Law 117-263

  • USACE announces approval of temporary deviation to support Kissimmee River Restoration construction

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District, announces the approval of a planned temporary deviation to the 1981 Lake Kissimmee, Hatchineha and Cypress Interim Regulation Schedule.

  • USACE requests public comments and hosts virtual meeting Feb. 24 on draft documents for the Kissimmee River Restoration Project (KRRP) Increment 1 Temporary Deviation

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District requests public comment on the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the proposed Kissimmee River Restoration Project (KRRP) Increment 1 Temporary Deviation, Osceola and Polk counties, Florida. The project non-Federal sponsor is the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). Comments are due March 7. A virtual informational meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 24, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. There will be an opportunity for formal public comment during the meeting.

  • USACE celebrates the completion of construction for the Kissimmee River Restoration Project

    Today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District (USACE) hosted a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the completion of the construction for the Kissimmee River Restoration Project. The Kissimmee River Restoration Project restores more than 40 square miles of the river floodplain ecosystem, 20,000 acres of wetlands, and 44 miles of the historic river channel.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District, announces public comment on the draft Expedited Environmental Assessment (EA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) associated with a planned temporary deviation to the 1981 Lake Kissimmee, Hatchineha and Cypress Interim Regulation Schedule. Public comments are due March 16.

  • Corps awards final construction contract for Kissimmee River Restoration

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has awarded the final construction contract for the Kissimmee River Restoration Project, a massive Everglades restoration project in Okeechobee and Highlands counties.The $17,887,000 S-69 Weir and Canal Backfill construction contract was awarded to Herve Cody Contractor from Robbinsville, North Carolina on September 26.

  • Corps awards second contract for dike rehabilitation

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District has awarded its second contract in the last two weeks to replace water control structures within Herbert Hoover Dike (HHD), the earthen dam surrounding Lake Okeechobee in south Florida.
