The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is continuing work on the Preliminary Assessment for the Naval Air Station Banana River Off-Base Disposal Area. The purpose of the Preliminary Assessment is to review the site history and Navy's use of the land and evaluate if further investigations are necessary. The Corps anticipates completing the Preliminary Assessment report with submittal to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as the lead regulatory agency, by the end of February. After the Preliminary Assessment is complete, we will request approval for a project and funding for a Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study. We will share the results of the Preliminary Assessment and progress toward an approved project as soon as possible.
