    Jacksonville District continues beach placement on Indian Beach Park and Allison Beach segment of Miami Beach shoreline protection project

    Jacksonville, Fla. (Aug. 1, 2022) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District, continues work on the Miami Beach Renourishment project that distributes sand placement at the southern end of the Indian Beach Park and Allison Beach. The project started June 13, 2022.

    U.S. Army Corps announces Chief’s Report signing for Pinellas County, Florida Coastal Storm Risk Management Study

    Jacksonville, Fla. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces that Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, commanding general, has signed the Chief’s Report for the the Pinellas County, Florida Coastal Storm Risk Management Study, recommending the project to Congress for approval. The project could be included in the next Water Resources Development Act. If approved, separate appropriations legislation would have to be passed to fund the construction of the project.

    Sarasota celebrates completion of Corps re-nourishment project at Lido Beach

    SARASOTA, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District, Sarasota City officials and local beach lovers gathered to celebrate the completion of the district’s Hurricane and Storm Damage Reduction project at Lido Beach May 27, 2021.
  • Corps constructs artificial reef in Brevard County

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its contractor, Shoreline Foundation, Inc., started constructing artificial mitigation reef mats for placement at ten nearshore sites from Satellite Beach to Indialantic in Brevard County. The first placement may occur as soon as next week east of Pelican Beach Park.

    Engineering Division: Hard work results in significant achievements

    “It was a big year for execution,” said Laureen Borochaner, chief of Jacksonville District’s Engineering Division. “We already had plenty of work, and then took on a lot of additional, unplanned work besides. Much of that work was in-house design of complex major projects.”

    Search for sand under way for Miami-Dade beaches

    Florida’s coastline is one of the largest in the nation, and its beaches are plentiful. The average person would think that sand is an endless resource and would never run out. However, for Miami-Dade County, sand that is dependable, economical and environmentally practicable is nearly depleted.
