  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces emergency permitting procedures following Hurricane Idalia

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announced that it received authority to issue alternative/emergency permitting procedures in response to conditions resulting from Hurricane Idalia. These alternate procedures will be effective for a six-month period, through March 3, 2024.     The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces the availability of the Final Draft Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM) Water Control Plan and a virtual LOSOM Project Delivery Team (PDT) Meeting and listening session scheduled for Monday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • USACE announces public comment on proposed alum treatment system for C-43 West Basin Storage Reservoir pursuant to Section 408

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District announces a 30-day public comment period for the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the approval of construction of an aluminum sulfate (alum) treatment system during the construction of the authorized C-43 West Basin Storage Reservoir (WBSR) in Hendry County, Florida. The Corps is evaluating the request from the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to modify the C-43 WBSR Federal Civil Works project pursuant to 33 U.S.C. 408. Comments are due June 5, 2023.
  • USACE announces public scoping meetings and comment period for Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) Operational Plan

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District announces public scoping meetings and public comment on the CEPP Operational Plan. In-person meetings are scheduled during the afternoon and evening of April 25 in Cutler Bay, and a virtual meeting is scheduled for the evening of April 26. Public Scoping Comments are due May 15.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces a virtual Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM) Project Delivery Team (PDT) Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 15, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. “The purpose of the March 15 PDT Meeting is to update the Project Delivery Team, partners, stakeholders and the public on a change to the LOSOM study schedule and to hold a listening session,” said LOSOM Project Manager Tim Gysan.
  • USACE and SFWMD announce four virtual workshops in February for development of C&SF Flood Resiliency Study alternatives

    The Jacksonville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) will host a will host a series of four virtual workshops in February as part of the C&SF Flood Resiliency Study. Each workshop is a standalone session that will focus on development of preliminary alternatives for one of the planning reaches discussed at the planning charrettes held on January 11 and 12. Each session will also include a recap of the problems, opportunities, objectives, and constraints collaboratively developed on the first day of the planning charrette. The management measures and conceptual ideas developed for each planning reach on day 2 of the charrettes held in January will provide the starting point for preliminary alternative development.     With Hurricane Ian set to make landfall in Florida, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, is suspending its operations at the five lock and dam structures on the Okeechobee Waterway and at the Canaveral Lock.

  • Corps awards contract for Big Fishweir aquatic environment restoration project

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, awarded a contract Aug. 26, 2022, to execute an aquatic ecosystem restoration project at Big Fishweir Creek. Big Fishweir Creek is an urban tributary of the St. Johns River, running approximately four miles south of downtown Jacksonville. It enters the St. Johns River, a designated American Heritage River, just north of the Ortega River.
