JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District invites Project Delivery Team members, stakeholders, partners, and members of the public to attend a virtual Project Delivery Team (PDT) meeting for the Southern Everglades Restoration Project feasibility study on Wednesday, July 15th, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The Southern Everglades Restoration Project is intended to improve the quantity, quality, timing and distribution of freshwater in Water Conservation Area 3B and eastern Everglades National Park.
“Please join the Southern Everglades Project Delivery Team on Wednesday, July 15th,” said Jennifer John, Senior Project Manager. “The Southern Everglades team would like feedback on the technical work completed so far. We also want to hear input about the upcoming selection of the Tentatively Selected Plan.” The Southern Everglades team will discuss the hydrologic and hydraulic modeling results for the final array of alternatives, and present evaluations for plan formulation, ecological performance measures, and Restoration, Coordination, Verification (RECOVER) system-wide analyses.

Jacksonville District is in the planning phase for the Southern Everglades Restoration Project, an important part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is our partner as the non-federal sponsor for this project. In 2000, the U.S. Congress authorized the federal government, in partnership with the state of Florida, to embark upon a multi-decade, multi-billion-dollar CERP to further protect and restore the remaining Everglades ecosystem while providing for other water-related needs of the region.
The Southern Everglades Restoration Project considers portions of two CERP components identified in the 1999 study known as the “Restudy” or “Yellow Book.” These components include:
- Dade-Broward Levee Seepage Management Area (Component BB)
- Bird Drive Recharge Area (Component U)
The Southern Everglades Restoration Project objective is to improve freshwater flow volumes, timing and seasonal hydroperiods to restore and re-establish ecological resilience of wetlands in Everglades National Park and Water Conservation Area 3B over the 50-year period of analysis from 2030 to 2080. During the study, alternatives for consideration will be discussed and project locations and dimensions will be specified in the draft integrated PIR/NEPA document.
