JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- (March 26, 2026) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Jacksonville District is preparing a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessment for a feasibility study called the Southern Everglades Restoration Project (Southern Everglades).
Southern Everglades is a component of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) authorized in Section 601 of the federal Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2000, as amended.
This study, which is being led in partnership with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), will identify ways to capture runoff, recharge groundwater, and help prevent water seepage in areas of western Miami-Dade County to provide overall improvements in the quantity, quality, timing and distribution of freshwater in Everglades National Park and Florida Bay.
Once complete, the Southern Everglades Integrated Project Implementation Report and NEPA Analysis is anticipated to be submitted to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works for consideration by Congress in the WRDA 2030.
Jacksonville District invites all interested parties to provide comments and to identify any issues or concerns. Public scoping meetings will be held virtually on the following date and times.
